Community Energy projects are becoming increasingly popular. There are several motivations: a focus on green energy, emphasis on co-operation, nurturing of community. Whatever the motivation, the trend is clear and there are many impacts for the growth of renewables, the challenge for the electricity grid and role of energy in community life.
In Germany, the term Bürgerenergie has been created to describe this citizen energy and an organisation, BEEN, acts as an imbrella group for renewable energy co-ops.
In Ireland, over 100 energy groups have come together to make a Community Energy Proclamation. This proclamation emphasises community, local investment and energy independence.
The community energy trend will demand more of the electricity grid and will require new tools and thinking for communities. We can help with these challenges. Contact Us
